Local and Long-Distance Service

With the growing array of telephone services and technology available to us today, we need more than ever to educate ourselves about all our options, as well as any pitfalls to watch for.  Traditional home land lines, cell phones, and the newest Voice-Over-Internet Protocol (VoIP, where you use your computer to make calls via a high-speed DSL or cable modem) all have their pros and cons; and we have many choices in long-distance service.

The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) is the state agency that regulates both local and in-state long-distance telephone service and is a good resource when you have questions or need information.  If you have a complaint about billing or service that you have not been able to resolve by first calling your phone service provider, you may also file a complaint with the PSC.  They have a convenient online complaint form, or you can contact them at one of the following contact options.

If your complaint concerns interstate or international long-distance service, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the appropriate agency to contact.  The FCC generally does not intervene in individual consumer problems but does maintain a database for the purpose of tracking the extent of complaints against a given company for possible action at a later date.
